WSOP Live! The Failmont Street Experience

Our daily WSOP news and entertainment show. It’s different than the other ones on the market, and that’s why we like it.

The Brits are Caning It!

Two bracelets and a ton of deep runs are showing the British contingent to be more than capable at the poker table.

Read on to hear how the Brits are caning it at the WSOP.

Elkymania Takes TOC by Storm

Elky Grospellier has a seat in the 2010 WSOP Tournament of Champions after taking down the WSOP Academy TOC SNG yesterday.

Click through to see photos and hear what ElkY had to say about it.

Dewitt Too Legit to Quit

Jason Dewitt took down his first bracelet after a runner-up and a third-place finish at last year’s WSOP. Check out the story right here.

durrrr’s Helicopter Prop Bet

Yesterday Tom Dwan booked a pretty sick bet with Chris Ferguson and John Juanda. The odds were 800 to 1 against both durrrr and Huck Seed winning the tournaments they were registered for at the time.

The bets were for $1k and $2k respectively. Dwan was heard to say that if he won he would use the money to buy a helicopter. Makes sense.

Click here for the Tom “durrrrr” Dwan helicopter prop bet story.

Scotty Nguyen Quits Drinking; Looking for Second Main Event Title

Scotty Nguyen is a true poker player. He’s already stuck well over $100k at this WSOP but he’s got big plans for the rest of the summer. He’s off the Michelob Ultras and we talked to him about it.

Durrrr-Watch 2010: Helicopter Prop Bet

June 11, 2010 by

During Day 2 of the 2-7 Lowball World Championship, Dwan made a new side bet with Chris Ferguson and John Juanda.  Dwan’s bet laid 800-1 that he would win the 2-7 event, and Huck Seed would take down the $1,500 Seven Card Stud tournament that starts tonight.

After some discussion around the table, both Ferguson and Juanda happily took the bet.  Ferguson agreed to put in $1,000, and Juanda was in it for $2,000.

After Ferguson and Juanda were in, Dwan announced, “If I win, I’m going to buy a helicopter.  How much are one of those?”

Mark Weitzman responded, “Obama bought a few for 5 million apiece.”

Dwan chuckled a bit and said, “Well, I’m not going to buy one of those ones.”

With the smaller 2-7 field, it is possible for Dwan to take down the event.  However, this isn’t his strongest game, and there is a lot of experience left to sift through.  Huck Seed, on the other hand, is facing a field of 370 players, and he has a strong mixed game background.

It will truly be a feat against the odds if both players can pull off a bracelet win in their events.

Giants of the WSOP

June 8, 2010 by

In poker, however, the guys that look like giants on TV really are giants.

PL.com has been on the floor throughout the day for the $10k Seven-Card Stud Championship, and even after busting out early in the event, Mike “The Mouth” Matusow has been stopping by to chat with Phil Hellmuth.

Whenever Hellmuth stands up, however, the 5’9” Matusow has to crane his head upward at a remarkably upright angle to have a close-proximity, hushed-tone conversation with the Poker Brat.

With that in mind, and the  NBA Basketball Finals going on in the U.S., here’s a list of some of most towering people of poker:

Phil Gordon 6’9”: Gordon is probably the tallest person in poker, but the Full Tilt pro is also one of the nicest people in the game. Too likable for his height to be intimidating.

Phil Hellmuth 6’7”: The Poker Brat can be intimidating in numerous ways – with his poker resume, his trash-talking table image and his formidable height. Hellmuth’s blow-ups are even worse when he’s standing at his table, furious.

Huck Seed 6’7”: The former Main Event champ has been known to show off his long-range shooting with big bucks on the line. His quiet demeanor and tall, lanky frame add to his intimidating table image.

Erik Seidel 6’7”: He’s an eight-time bracelet winner and a pro’s pro. Seidel’s consistency as one of the world’s best makes him a scary opponent for anyone.

Howard Lederer 6’5”: The Professor’s large frame and large intellect makes him a huge presence in any room he walks into, and the effect is even bigger when Lederer is at the poker table.
