Pro basketball player Earl Barron of the NBA’s New York Knicks is in the house, and at 7 feet tall, Barron can keep an eye on every table in the room.
In honor of the skyscraping NBA pro, here are five of most prolific sports figures-turned-poker-players:
Greg “FBT” Mueller – The former hockey pro is perhaps the most accomplished former athlete in the poker record books.
Mueller’s career earnings exceed $1.7 million, and the player known as “Full Blown Tilt” broke through with two bracelet wins at the 2009 WSOP.
Orel Hershiser – The “Bulldog” has a baseball resume that speaks for itself, but the former Cy Young winning pitcher and World Series MVP has made a mark on the poker world since beginning his poker career in 2006.
Hershiser earned the respect of the poker community with his run in the 2008 NBC Heads-Up Poker Championship quarterfinals, and the Los Angeles Dodgers legend continues to play regularly in live cash games and online as a sponsored PokerStars pro.
Jerry Buss – The owner of the NBA’s Los Angeles Lakers is a regular at the WSOP year after year, along with his frequent appearances on High Stakes Poker.
Buss’s best WSOP finish came in 1991, when he took second place in Seven-Card stud.
T.J. Cloutier – The six-time bracelet winner is one of poker’s living legends and universally respected by his peers.
The well-known craps enthusiast was also a college football star, attending the University of California Berkeley on an athletic scholarship and playing in the 1959 Rose Bowl
Boris Becker – Becker retired as one of the greatest tennis players of all time, with more than $25 million in earnings during his tennis career.
Becker joined the PokerStars team in 2007 and continues to play major European events.

Idildur1 Not as Baller as We Thought
Some clever Facebook lurker got a hold of a few pics of Viktor Blom’s pad in Sweden.
The place itself looks pretty cool but it has absolutely no furniture in it. Seriously, dude is sleeping on an air mattress and grinding nose-bleed stakes sitting on the floor against the wall. We’re not going to pass judgment on the dude in nothing but pink underwear.
ADZ124 and Kid Poker A Fussin’ and A Feudin’
New PokerListings blogger Matt “ADZ124″ Marafioti had some choice words for Daniel Negreanu, spawning one of the biggest threads of the last few weeks. The two have since made up but the thread’s worth a perusal.
Brian Micon Boxes … Sort Of
If you thought the idea of Brian Micon in a boxing match was an idea so silly it shouldn’t really be done … you’d be right. Micon doesn’t care, however, and he went ahead and did it anyway.
Go through the thread, watch the pre-fight videos, check out the fight and see what a skinny white guy with no boxing training looks like in a fight.
PokerStars SCOOP Feedback Thread
Absolutely massive thread started by PokerStars to learn what the players would change for the Spring Championship of Online Poker. This is the place to go if you have something to constructive to say about the state of online MTTs.
The Future’s So Bright (I Gotta Wear Shades)
Discussion around whether sunglasses should be allowed at poker tables, spawned by a comment made this week on High Stakes Poker.
Bonus PhotoShop Thread: Baller Setups
This is a quality photoshop thread if ever there was one. Our favorite pros poker setups. NVG at its best.
