WSOP Legend Hellmuth Pwned Spectacularly

Much of the humor from this hand is actually derived from the reaction of the other players in the game but not in the hand. Daniel Negreanu and Tony G in particular seem to be having a whale of a time.

Check it out, it’s an epic hand and we know you’ll love it. You never know – you might even feel sorry for the Poker Brat…

Dutch Boyd Resurgent At 2010 WSOP

June 17, 2010 by

Boyd has certainly been an interesting figure since bursting onto the poker scene with a deep run in the 2003 WSOP Main Event, finishing 12th.

Long gone are the days of The Crew, with Boyd and Scott Fischman setting their sights on taking over the WSOP in 2003 and 2004.

Boyd’s problems, including a battle with mental illness, are well-documented, but there’s no doubt that Boyd is a talented poker player.

After taking down the $2.5k Six-Handed Limit Hold’em bracelet Sunday, perhaps Boyd is on the rise for a resurgence in 2010.

“Coming into this WSOP I had very high expectations for myself, because I feel like I’m playing the best poker of my life,” Boyd told PL.com from the Pavilion Room stage at the bracelet ceremony.

“I’ve really been studying and focusing and training. Working on my game and going to the online training sites. There’s a wealth of information out there if you really want to improve your game.”

It’s a simple statement on the winning formula from Boyd, a controversial but intriguing character at all times.

“People talk about the luck factor in poker,” Boyd said. “The luck factor is very overrated.”

“When I look back at all my near misses with bracelets, I didn’t get unlucky at any of those. I feel like I’m capable of playing world class poker and hanging with the best in the world.”

Boyd says he feels like he could take down multiple bracelets in 2010, but for now he’s in the elusive two-bracelet club at the WSOP.

“How do I feel after winning my second gold bracelet? It doesn’t suck,” said Boyd. “It feels really good.”

World Cup Fever at the WSOP 2010

UNITED STATES – The poker boom began with the explosion of popularity in the game after the 2003 WSOP, and in the last seven years numerous international stars have arrived on the scene.

A great majority of poker’s big names, however, are still from the U.S., and the list of all-time WSOP bracelet winners is dominated by Americans. Doyle Brunson, Phil Hellmuth, Erik Seidel, Phil Ivey – take your pick.

ENGLAND – The recent wave of British poker success has continued to roll in 2010, with Praz Bansi and James Akenhead of the London-based Hit Squad bringing home big-time results in the past 12 months.

Liv Boeree has become one of the most recognizable faces in the game, while Roland de Wolfe, Dave “Devilfish” Ulliott and Neil Channing are also amongst England’s finest.

AUSTRALIA – Jeffrey Lisandro might have very well cemented his legacy as the best ever from down under with his 2009 WSOP Player of the Year performance.

In addition to the four-time bracelet winner Lisandro, Australia also claims 2005 Main Event Champ Joe Hachem and the iconic Tony G amongst its ranks.

DENMARK – The most famous poker player from Denmark happens to be Gus Hansen, who’s one of the biggest names in poker.

Hansen’s crazy/aggressive style has created something of a stereotype for Scandinavian players, but also hailing from Denmark is 2008 Main Event champion Peter Eastgate, who we haven’t heard much from lately.

FRANCE – The French claim a number of poker pros, including three of the game’s biggest names.

Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier has emerged as one of the world’s top players, along with High Stakes regular David Benyamine. Vanessa Rousso also has dual citizenship in France and the U.S.

Sorel Mizzi

Sorel Mizzi is on absolute fire right now. If you want to know what a heater looks like … just stare into this kid’s eyes.

He’s already won 4 live tournaments this year with numerous other final table appearances, and just took down a SCOOP event this month. Expect him to be going deep in many of the NL holdem and PLO events.

Yevgeniy Timoshenko

Yevgeney Timoshenko

In my opinion, this kid has to be considered one of the best NL holdem tournament players in the world. His results speak for themselves, he is insanely tough to play against and I know I wouldn’t want him at my table.

Scott Seiver

Another one who is just on fire right now… going deep in everything, crushing everything he sees. He’s been regularly working on his mixed game play the last few months. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him holding up a bracelet.

Daniel O’Brien

One of my best friends in poker, and the kid just has flat-out skills. He has a table presence that you just don’t see in most players with online roots.

He can play multiple games and will be playing a lot of events this year, and I know how hungry he is. Fuel the animal!

Daniel Alaei

Plays tons of mixed games events, solid, aggressive in all forms of poker, and he’s been playing poker since he was born… it’s in his blood.

Brent Hanks

Another one of my good friends in poker. He eats online kids for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I know how frustrated he was after last year’s WSOP with no results, and I know how badly he wants to win.

Allen Bari

Allen Bari

Christian Harder

One of the nicest kids I’ve ever met, and in my opinion, is in the top 5 for NL holdem tournament players.

I know the NL events are hard to win because of the big fields, but this kid is skilled enough and so in tune to the game and his opponents, I think we’re going to see him deep in a bunch of events.

Allen Bari

Misunderstood by his peers, loved by his friends, hated by his enemies … I don’t care what you think of him, Allen Bari is going to win a bracelet this summer. That is my flat out prediction. He’s going to be playing the $50k 8 game and tons of mixed game events.

I talk poker with him all the time and he knows his stuff.

Marco Johnson

Plays a lot of mixed game events, solid player all around. Wouldn’t be surprised if he shipped a 2-7 triple draw tourney.

Justin Bonomo

Crushes all forms of poker. He’s going to be playing a lot of events this year and he looks motivated. I don’t know what event he’s going to win, or final table, but I’m sure you’ll see him deep in something in the first week or 2 of the series.

PokerListings.com will be on location in Las Vegas for the entire WSOP 2010. Keep an eye on our World Series of Poker 2010 Live Coverage section.
